How Did the Event Get Started?
The Heart of America Artists Rendezvous is an extension of an association created by Todd Williams and John P. Lasater IV, two professional artists who have a vision to grow the appreciation of fine art in their region of the country, and promote its beauty to the fine arts community nationwide.
In 2008, inspired by their travels to other similar events, the idea for the Rendezvous was born. A welcome partnership was found with The Peel Compton Foundation, and in the Spring of 2009 the first annual Heart of America Artists Rendezvous was held.
The event was successful, drawing nearly 45 artists from the area. It was also a big hit with the city of Bentonville, Arkansas, making it on the front page of the paper three days in a row, and drawing quite a crowd for the sale held on the final day. A number of paintings were sold, and several paintings were commissioned by local residents. Plans began immediately afterword to hold future events.
